Learn MoreHealth and wellness requires a lifestyle that includes daily physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual practices. As an Indigenous role model, Carlin Nordstrom delivers his message from the heart to young children, youth, and the community. He provides a variety of workshops and experiential activities to engage children, youth and adults. The content for his presentation was developed in collaboration with an Indigenous Registered Doctoral Psychologist.
Soda pop consumption in many First Nations communities is out of control and the statistics show how harmful and dangerous it is. Saskatchewan now has the highest Childhood Obesity rate in Canada. Indigenous communities need to take action to reduce the consumption of fast food and sugary drinks to help reduce the incidence of associated chronic diseases.
We need to:
#1
Education on the dangers of fast food and soda
#2
Make plans for healthy alternatives
#3
Education for all community members on healthy alternatives
Maximize your potential and improve your skills with KISIK day camps featuring specialized off-ice coaching and on-ice instruction.
KISIK has created a family coaching program for athletes and parents to learn the skills and methods critical to maximizing an athlete's potential. There is a lack of Saskatchewan Indigenous athletes playing high-level sports, so it is critical that more Indigenous athletes maximize their potential.
We coach the families as a whole on what works and what does not. These are a few examples of what will be taught:
Importance of a good attitude and work ethic
Being prompt and showing up on time for all team events
Dealing with coaches and other parents
Dealing with racism and setbacks
Proper training schedule, in season and off, proper nutrition
Importance of community and family support, both good and bad examples
And much more!
There will be motivational presentations and stories of success from high level Indigenous athletes. This camp is open to male and female athletes. The off-ice seminars are open to all Indigenous families that play any sport ie; soccer, fastball, basketball, etc.
Coaches will be Indigenous ex-professional, U.S. College and WHL players including:
Carlin Nordstrom, Poundmaker FN – Western Michigan Broncos, 4 years pro
Jon Mirasty, Flying Dust FN – Prince Albert Raiders, 13 year pro
Andy Bezeau, Metis – Niagara Falls Thunder, OHL, 10 years pro
